My childrens book is based on the disease Anorexia. The definition by the word dictionary is . . . Anorexia- noun- Loss of appetite- Also called ANOREXIA NERVOSA a disorder characterized by the fear of becoming fat and refusal of food, leading to debility and even death. My story is about a girl named Jenna just tyring to fit in. She starts to float away from her personality and is no longer in touch with her conscience. She is trying to be like everyone else through what she wears, speaks and acts like instead of trying to be skinny. Anorexia and personality disorder both relate to the same problem of self image and acceptance from the people you are around. Both are a severe diseases. "The classic anorexia patient is an adolecent girl who is bright, does well in school, and is not objectivley." (Rutigliano) Normally it starts with a girl who is maybe a few pounds overwieght and begins to diet. Usually the diet begins healthy and then they find they aren't losing the wieght fast enough. They may turn to bulimia another disease related to anorexia which is- Abnormally voracious appetite or unnatraually constant hunger. It's Also called Binge-Purge-syndrome. And purging is the act of purposley vomitting so you can eat but not gain wieght. Patients of Anorexia either dont eat or eat and purge. The youngest girl diagnosed with anorexia has been 7 years old. The disease can also be diagnosed as late as 50,60,70, and sometimes 80. A lot of ages have been diagnosed with any two of the diseases Anorexia or Bulima and personality disorder.

throughout the past few years doctors have been diagnosing more people with anorexia. It is becoming a big problem for the U.S mostly in females. Only 10% of people with anorexia are men. They say in the article that anorexia usually occurs in adolescent girls , who are bright, do well in school, and are not objectively fat. They have problems with their body image and believe they are fat so they either starve themselves or eat and then throw up which is another disease called Bulimia. Eating disorders are becoming an epidemic. Wether you are over weight, skinny or in the early stage of either. throughout the U.S many of the kids have increasingly been getting more over weight and is becoming a severe problem. The first article is on anorexia the second is obesity.

My topic is bullying and, the site above is on sirs which you can get to on the ms51library.org. The other Link is an article written by: Ruth Wells and it talks about "the truth about bullying" she talks about the problems bullying starts and how it can be stopped. Also she is in a workshop so in parts of the articles she says how they often speak of this issue. She says that bullying can sometimes happen more if you focus on it. And that it WILL happen in any setting where youth congregates. She states that "When youth professionals focus solely or primarily on bullying, it may be a bit like seeing the forest but not the trees." She uses other analogies and compares bullying to things that are more "reader friendly" in the article she gives a list of the truth about bullying as the articles title is " the truth about bullying". she says that media loves simple, black and white explanations. and thats what we get as for explanations for bullying. i'm excited to further look into this topic and reveal more explanations.

4. identify and analyze
i am reading sarah's key by: Tatiana de Rosnay. it is about the round up of jews in paris around the year 1942. a social issue is the persecution of jewish people. It discriminates against them. This issue in society is important to me because my grandparents survived the hollacost. which is all relevent to the social issue in my book.my books main character is "sarah."and she and he rparents get taken and put into a concentration camp with all the other jews in Paris. in the book people that are jewish wear very big yellow stars on thier clothing. the star seperates them in school and prevent non- jews from even getting to know them. I think whta they are practicing in sarah's school is persecution wich is unexceptable.

entry 8
I had mixed feelings about the poem “mother to son” by Langston hughes. I made a lot of connections while reading the poem independently. But, I found myself rating it at an 8.5 .
Then, hearing my classmates answer the questions being asked by ms. Manners I found that poems should be interpreted differently by every person.Listening to my peers helped me finish up my thoughts on the metaphors and how I interpreted them but didn't necessarily change my mind. Before having the class discussion we has group discussions. I felt my group wasn't giving me enough info on their feeling towards the poem, So, I choose to elaborate more on my annotations. I think this helped me to prepare for the discussion and have a strong base on where I stand in the writing piece. Reading the poem 3 times got me comfortable with it and I was able to see some of Hughes's writing in a different way.
Somethings that were talked about in the discussion I hadn't related to the same way others did. But, hearing my classmates I was quickly able to form and opinion. I think I was only to do this not only form my experience in poetry but because, staying involved and participating can help in situation you aren't prepared for. I felt learning while conversing was an easy way to get the hang of annotating on poems and relating to metaphors by interpreting them in your own way.

Appreciation !!!!!! DONE!
When an author pulls you into a world created by the imagination of him/herself . That's when you know the writer has enough experience to help you go on a journey with characters given enough detail to be standing in the room with you. That's exactly what C.S Lewis the author of the Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe succeeded to do in the book.
In many parts of the book I would find the detail to be very intrecit. But at times i thought it was skimpy and left me a little unsure. While reading this book i felt that the storyline was something fast paced and thrown at you right from the start. And this is one reason i found the book enjoyable. Because, within the first ten pages you are dragged into a detailed story. It's almost like you are blindsided but, you just go with it because the author makes you WANT to.
"Next moment she found that what was rubbing against her face and hands was no longer soft fur but something hard and rough and even prickly. 'why, it is just like branches of tree's!' exclaimed Lucy. And then she saw that there was a light ahead of her; not a few inches away where the back of the wardrobe ought to have been, but a long way off. Something cold and soft was falling on her a moment later she found that she was standing in the middle of a wood at night time with snow under her feet and snowflakes falling through the air."
I find his talent of describing transportation enjoyable. I think that books like this are fun to read because of adventure, and the made up ways of fictional worlds. I think reading it now as an older person i feel that the book has changed meanings to me. Before i felt the meaning of the book was an adventure to discover new things. And now the book transformed into something that just makes me feel like i am enjoying a story for all ages. No matter how old or young you are how tall or small or loving or empathetic. This book will make you happy. It will open your eyes and mind to see that their are different ways to life then the way we are living it.
I think while i read the book the story was like a roller coaster. The characters are the directors they keep you on the track of the roller coaster. The author is the designer, but the fun comes from how the author chooses to design the tracks of the ride. The description in the story is the things you find when you're at the top right about to fly down with help from the directors. Feelings of the characters are how the directer's choose to follow the path. And when the story/ride is almost over and you want to unbuckle the designer puts a twist on the tracks. Leaving you screaming with shock but feeling like you can't survive with out more.
Thinking back to when i read this as i child the ending could have suficed. Getting older opens your eyes to finding new details and noticing things that weren't caught the first time around. For me reading this book was like an exiting roller coaster and when it was over i felt there could have been more. But when you put yourself in perspective the designer always has a reason for ending a ride.

ENTRY #7!

My ideas oh how this man came up with the crazy idea of a neat story like this was way off. I thought his life would be drasticaly different then normal. But he owned a simple life led by a simple man. That has an imagination large enough to use world building in his stories. His mind works differently then average human beings i would imagine every day he is hit with new ideas fresh new stories to tell to his fans. i think knowing more about the author helps me to write my appreciation to make it accurate down to years and dates. Also everything that i have predicted is now put into place and i know what i need to. I know enough to be a professional writer of appreciations. definitley go for the biography!

ENTRY #6
On page 21 i had an interesting realization. I related the book to my life.Lucy the youngest child in The Lion The Witch and The Wardrobe is not trusted by her older siblings. She feels they are acting to much like adults. When i was reading the chapter that Lucy explores Narnia i felt terrible knowing how she felt. The way the author told the reaction it was as if i was looking in a real younger siblings life.
I myself am a younger sibling, i have 2 older brothers. So when going through the process of re-reaing and backtracking my child hood books i began to backtrack my childhood. I though about all the times my brothers didn't believe when i swore there was a monster under my bed. Or when i ran out of my room screaming " there is an evil monkey in my closet!" So as i continued to read it made the book more enjoyable that i made a connection at a very early part in the book. Now thinking about it, this reminds me of Fish bowling, an activity in elementary school where we pick 2 people to have a book talk in front of the class.
Thinking about the point of the entry, it was to expand on a note. To fully do that i feel that i must backtrack 2 dimentionally into my past. My brothers at times were sympathetic and understanding. They cared that I was little and needed those lessons to learn and live like they did to grow up and find out the harsh way like every other child. Thinking about this i remembered by brother telling me he saw the tooth fairy in my room the night before. I remember feeling so excited to loose another tooth he made it seem so real to me. Just like the author of the Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe. He know's exactly what younger siblings are like and i appreciate having the full experience of that in the book. This book has sent for a ride on the blast from the past. Remembering things that i never should have forgotten. And, that is the beauty of re-reading childhood books.

Charlotte's web Entry 5!!!
I feel the theme that best describes the story of charlotte's web, is that good things come out of bad things. Throughout the story for different situations it seems for certain characters, things have to go wrong before things get better. It's through the actions of the characters, that this happens.
For example, when Wilbur is going to be killed at the barn Charlotte stays up all night and sacraficed herself to save Wilbur by writing in her web.Her actions are what saved Wilbur and made Mr.Zuckerman famous. This supports the idea that when a bad situation is directed at a character, the actions of another character is what brings the good out of it. Even when Wilbur lost his best friend he made 3 new ones. The example demonstrates, that when a bad situations falls upon a character they gain MORE than they lose.
Both dilemas in the story are initialy devestaing. However, when the character that the problem applies to is strong enough to not give up, they will see the good that comes out of it.
